TOMAS LUNDGREN
Born 1985
“My art revolves around the image and how it can represent time and memory. I work with painting and drawing, and my works always evolve from an existing image or model. They focus on the performance, transfer and re-creation – from one image to another.
Le Temps Retrouvé is an ongoing series of drawings based on parts of Marcel Proust’s handwritten draft of the novel In Search of Lost Time. Proust’s notes are hastily scribbled ideas, full of changes, deletions and additions. The drawings are made on a scale of 1:1 and are an attempt to use drawing to follow the writer’s process throughout the creation of one of the greatest novels in modern literature – a simultaneous journey of time and re-creation.
I am interested in how the hand can interpret thoughts. Proust’s inner monologue is conveyed through writing and just over a century later, I am re-creating Proust’s hand movements, which has led to these works.”
Tomas holds degrees from Valand Academy (Akademin Valand) in Gothenburg (2013) and the Malmö Art Academy (Konsthögskolan i Malmö) (2010). He also studied at Dômen Art School (Dômen konstskola) in Gothenburg.
